Identification of Aluminum Tolerance in Ethiopian Chickpea (Cicer arietinum L.) Germplasm

چکیده

Aluminum (Al) toxicity is a major abiotic stress that negatively impacts plant growth and crop productivity. Al ions are released into soil solutions as function of pH, which in turn determined by combination factors, including local geology, historic vegetation land-use patterns. Selection use Al-tolerant crops preferred method to address the problem toxicity. The present study evaluated modern cultivars, advanced breeding lines landrace for tolerance using seedling-based hydroponic assay. Two sequential experiments were conducted score root shoot traits presence aluminum. Initially, six concentrations (0, 50, 100, 120, 150 200 µM) tested on chickpea genotypes identify single concentration best discriminates among genotypes. Subsequently, 31 at 0 120 µM Al. Progressive declines trait values observed all with increasing Al, although degree sensitivity varied significantly Genotypes both total length under relative compared control treatment. Considering parameters, we identified four tolerant (DZ-2012-CK-0237, Wollega LV, DZ-2012-CK-0233 Natoli) two sensitive (Akaki Fetenech). LV obtained from acidic regions Western Ethiopia, presenting possibility historical selection during cultivation soils might underlie its unusual tolerance. aluminum here candidates introgression new Ethiopian varieties potential increase yield expand area cultivation.

Characterising root trait variability in chickpea (Cicer arietinum L.) germplasm

Chickpea (Cicer arietinum L.) is an important grain legume crop but its sustainable production is challenged by predicted climate changes, which are likely to increase production limitations and uncertainty in yields. Characterising the variability in root architectural traits in a core collection of chickpea germplasm will provide the basis for breeding new germplasm with suitable root traits ...

GENETIC DIVERGENCE IN CHICKPEA (Cicer arietinum L.)

Genetic diversity of 27 chickpea genotypes was studied through Mahalanobis D and Principal Component analysis. The genotypes under study fall into five clusters. The cluster II contained the highest number of genotypes (11) and Cluster I contained the lowest. Cluster I produced the highest mean value for number of pods per plant. The inter cluster distances were much higher than the intra clust...

Genetic diversity of chickpea (Cicer arietinum L.) germplasm in Pakistan as revealed by RAPD analysis.

Genetic diversity analysis of chickpea germplasm can provide practical information for the selection of parental material and thus assist in planning breeding strategies. Chickpea seed is a good source of carbohydrates and proteins, constituting 80% of the total dry seed weight. Released cultivars and advanced lines of 30 chickpea genotypes were subjected to RAPD analysis for assessment of gene...
